Hundreds Salute Chabad Modi'in
Hundreds of businesspeople and leaders, public figures, ministers, Knesset members, rabbis and city residents attended a gala event to salute Chabad's work in Modi'in and to launch a building campaign.

This is the first such event that Modi'in's Chabad has held.

Director of Chabad in the city, Rabbi Boruch Slonim, welcomed all the distinguished guests.

The evening was chaired by known TV personality, Kobi Arieli. Arieli enumerated Chabad's diverse array of programs and accomplishments in Modi'in, praising them for the good work he said he has personally witnessed.

The Rebbe's letter was read by Rabbi Shmuel Hefer of Aguch. Rabbi Dov Slonim, a member of the Chabad Beis Din, presented blessings on behalf of Chabad rabbis in Israel.

Director General of Prime Minister's Office Mr. Eyal Gabbai told of his personal relationship with Rabbi Slonim. He surprised the crowd when he relayed greetings from Israel's Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, who emphasized the government's longstanding positive ties with Chabad.

IDF Major General Yiftach Ron-Tal, currently Director of the Israeli Port Authority told of his admiration of Chabad and called on participants to join in supporting Chabad.

Minister of National Infrastructures Dr. Uzi Landau recounted his close connection with the Rebbe and his global activities. He also talked about the importance of retaining Israeli borders.

Quoting the Rebbe's call that every Jew bring a 'coin of fire' specifically, was Professor Daniel Hershkowitz, Minister of Science. He attested to Chabad of Modi'in's warmth, which eh called "vintage Chabad style."

Mr. Chaim Bibas, Modi'in's mayor told of his longtime acquaintanceship with RabbI Slonim, saying, "I am a usual at Chabad of Modi'in." The mayor also committed to continuing to support and assist Chabad in its activities in his city.

Rabbi Slonim revealed some of his troubles when he first started off on his work. He asked all present to join in the building campaign, to erect "another beautiful Chabad House in Israel."

The evening's keynote speaker was Israel's emeritus Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau. Rabbi Lau, who currently serves as chief rabbi in Tel-Aviv and Jaffa, related some of his many correspondences with the Rebbe and of his work with Chabad throughout the world and Modi'in.

Modi'in's Chief Rabbi David Lau closed the evening, blessing Chabad on behalf of the city's residents.

Singers Ohad Moskowitz and Amir Benayon entertained the audience with their stunning performances.

Organizers said the evening was a success, as businesspeople committed to building a new Chabad center.
